Comments:

Greetings & Salutations! I'm a training officer for the 4th Battalion of the American Volunteer Reserve and serve as a CW4 (Chief Warrant Officer) and am certified to teach K-12 as well as in a community college with my M.A. I am also a graphic artist and have a nonprofit educational website: http://www.militarybadges.info which shows worldwide insignia. I surfed on to this really nice website, but then again, it is Texan and you know Texas is the best! My nickname is "Sarge" and I also served in the 118th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division ("Old Hickory") in the South Carolina Army National Guard in 1963 while I lived in Charleston (1948-1958, 1963). You may also go to www.webshots.com and see my photo albums which show U.S. Army chevrons (1872 to 1920) as well as U.S. Navy rates (1841-1945) and other great insignia, even download for free and use for your own website. Feel free to email me!

Not a veteran but a patriot. See story about a teammate and hero.

I am submitting the story at the suggestion of Mr. Al Kincer. It was written in honor of the memory of a former Bowie Jackrabbit and teammate of mine, who served in the US Marine Corps in Korea. It is completely true, and was related to me personally a few years ago by Clarke Bradley. I am sending this with the hope of honoring every veteran of every war fought by our beloved American heroes. I honor each of you wonderful men and women, and thank each of you for paying the price for my freedom. I was only 12 years old at the start of WWII, but the flame of patriotism has burned brightly in my spirit ever since.

Sadly, I lost one of my younger brothers, L. Dean Curry, in 1952, during the Korean War. He would have been 73 today if he had lived, but instead, he rests in our little cemetery in Bowie, forever 19.

I'm currently serving as Chief of Staff of ARSIC-North over here and am
wondering of the best outlets to let people know after my tour the good
things happening here even in the midst of the worst summer casualtywise for
the US in Afghanistan. My tour ends early next year and I'll be coming home
to Richardson, TX.  I'm a TX Army National Guardsman and will be returning
to my civilian life at that time.

Thanks for your help in getting the message out.

Boilers Mate USS Chicago CG-11

Comments:

We are at the present in Lubbock Texas but will be moving to Bowie on August
1st. I was one of the youngest onboard the Chicago. I was only 17 but
wouldn't trade the time for anything. The times that I was onboard the
Chicago had become a flagship of the Pacific 7th Fleet. I look forward to
meeting some of the members when we get to Bowie.
